Senior Voices, Big Insights: Compliance LEADR 2024 in review

Written by Liam Driscoll | Nov 26 2024

Earlier this November, FundApps clients, partners, and community members came together at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel for the compliance event of the year, Compliance LEADR 2024. The event was a vibrant gathering of compliance and investment management professionals, complete with guest speakers, panellists, and conversation on the ever evolving world of regulatory compliance.

Following the LEADR framework, the event was structured around the five pillars of shareholding disclosure that enable firms to prioritise efforts and ensure all key problem areas are accounted for - Legislation, Events, Aggregation, Data, and Region.

With guest representation stretching from Japan, to the Netherlands, to the US and beyond, the FundApps team seized the opportunity to provide a comprehensive overview of the future of compliance, addressing the global nuance with all attendees. For those that weren’t able to make it, we’ve included a short overview of the day’s panels.

Keynote Speech

Our keynote speaker, Andy Haldane, served as the former Chief Economist at the Bank of England and sat on the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee. Clients enjoyed Haldane’s perspective and utilised the time to discuss hot button issues like Donald Trump’s victory in the US Presidential election, as well as the outlook on the Labour Party government in the UK.

Haldane, who emphasised the importance of adaptability in a rapidly evolving market, also spoke on:

  • The importance of dialogue and conversation among financial institutions and regulatory bodies in developing productive legislation
  • The limited precedent available in evaluating new technology in regulation, and;
  • The potential for growth in new governments.

Breakout Sessions and Panels

Participants also engaged in targeted sessions covering a variety of topics, including:

  • The C-Suite Compliance Chat: A C-suite level conversation that saw our panel discuss the rise of AI, what it will mean to their business, and its place in financial institutions as a whole.
  • The Perils of Data: A discussion focused not only on the role that data plays in investment management, but the role a data steward plays, too.
  • The Lions of Legislation: A deep dive into regulation and the most talked-about rule bearing down on managers and compliance professionals - the impending implementation of 13f-2 in the United States.

With coffee breaks, lunch, and an active reception breaking up the day’s guided conversations, guests were also provided with the opportunity to meet fellow compliance experts, and talk through the day’s most thought provoking material.
